MEMORIAL TREE AND BENCH PROGRAM

Compounded by the removal of over 600 trees due to damage by the Emerald Ash Borer, the state park manager has embarked on a program to replenish the trees lost. ILDC has helped the Indian Lake State Park by contributing funds for the purchase of additional trees.

For many years, visitors to Indian Lake State Park could observe several hundred trees marked with plaques in memory or in honor of a loved one. In 2016, ILDC took on a survey to locate, photograph the trees and the plaques to update the database. It was noted that some trees had died or had been removed, some plaques damaged or removed so ILDC, through a very dedicated volunteer, has incorporated a redesigned Memorial Tree Program and in early 2018, added a Memorial Bench Program.

The Memorial Bench Program has become a popular program, allowing visitors to the lake to sit, reflect and enjoy Indian Lake.
