About
Established in 1983, ILDC (Indian Lake Development Corporation) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to improve Indian Lake State Park in conjunction with the State Park manager. Our lively volunteers constantly seek feedback on potential improvements around the lake!
Our volunteers manage the organization of ILDC and assist in fundraising projects that benefit Indian Lake State Park visitors and the surrounding community. One of our most significant events of the year is ILDC Day, an annual picnic held in September that includes recreation, entertainment, good food, and great discussion about the future of Indian Lake State Park improvements. State and local officials also attend this event, allowing camaraderie to develop through friendly, open conversations about future projects.
In addition to discussing future projects, ILDC Day showcases past accomplishments and explains ongoing projects! This occasion, along with a partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, has brought about many great ventures, including the development of Old Field Beach, the bike path, updated restroom facilities, parkland acquisitions, dredge equipment purchases, shoreline protection, and the formation of the Indian Lake Watershed Project!

PAST PROJECTS

Tree Restoration
State Park Beautification
Multipurpose Building
Weed Harvester
Fall Festival
Dog Park
Local Playgrounds
ILDC worked with Indian Lake State Park and numerous volunteers to replace trees destroyed during the March 2024 tornado. In one afternoon, 66 trees were replanted along the local shoreline, Lakeview Harbor, and Fox Island.
Assisting the Indian Lake State Park manager in acquiring playground equipment for the various parts of the Indian Lake State Park, ILDC has funded playground equipment at Old Field Beach, Lakeview Launch, Chippewa Park, Moundwood, and Black Hawk Launch. In 2022, ILDC had its grand opening for a new all-inclusive playground at Fox Island Beach.
Rather than have dogs running on the beach at Old Field Beach, an assistant park manager suggested to ILDC that the construction of a dog park near the beach would be a great project to fund. The members of ILDC approved and the ribbon officially opening the park was cut on June 10th, 2017.
ILDC prides itself on maintaining many attractive public spaces for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. We have done this with park cleanups and shoreline cleanups. See the ample parks around Indian Lake!
The Indian Lake Fall Festival is one of the highlights for visitors to Indian Lake in the Fall. Crafts, entertainment, and great food greet the many visitors to the Indian Lake State Park Campground. ILDC raises funds by offering Schmidt's Sausage Haus at the Fall Festival.
Proposed as a building that can be used for multiple uses, ILDC raised funds to build this building at the Indian Lake State Park Campgrounds. ILDC continues to add improvements to the building to enhance its use.
With Indian Lake's cleaner water, sunlight is now penetrating the bottom of the lake and promoting growth of grasses and weeds. The growth is abundant enough that fish and boats can not get through the grasses. ILDC has partnered with several organizations and agencies to fund a weed harvester dedicated to Indian Lake.

Kayak Launch
ILDC has assisted in installing a kayak launch to allow for easy access to the water with less risk of Kayak turnovers at the Moundwood boat ramp. This project is working to allow kayakers more access to the lake.

We can always use your help! The ILDC meets the third Wednesday of each month (except December) at 6:30 PM at the Indian Lake State Park Campgrounds. Volunteers make this organization run and accomplish all the projects it takes on!
There are several ways that ILDC raises funds; most of them are through donations from generous people who enjoy what the Indian Lake State Park and surrounding area have to offer. The group also raises funds at the annual Fall Festival, held the last weekend in September at the ILSP Campgrounds, in addition to smaller events throughout the year.

HISTORY
In 1983, Indian Lake State Park manager Dave Helgeson realized there was a need for improvement in many areas around the lake. Having received little capital funding for many years, Dave formed a state park advisory council, comprised of community leaders, to bring attention to those needs. The council’s purpose was to inform the Indian Lake community, as well as local and state officials, of the sought-after improvements. It soon became the Indian Lake Development Corporation. The initial focus of the group was on the development of ILSP facilities, but soon expanded to include the preservation of our natural areas, and enhancement of fishing and hunting. ILDC has worked alongside the Indian Lake Watershed Project for many years, becoming a model for a successful partnership for other state parks.
Through fundraising events and donations from the community, ILDC has been able to be responsible for many projects and improvements throughout the state park. It has purchased picnic tables, park benches, playground equipment, law enforcement supplies, and much more. A rentable multi-purpose building constructed at the ILSP was partially funded by ILDC. In June of 2017, a dog park was opened at Old Field Beach. The following year, ILDC installed two shade structures at the beach, as well. An ADA compliant dock was installed at the Russells Point Harbor, across from the donut shop. ILDC is currently responsible for the maintenance of the shoreline in state park areas. On June 11th, 2022, ILDC held the grand opening of its largest project to date, the new Fox Island Playground. This playground is inclusive, and has access to an ADA compliant dock and fishing area.
