HOW WE HELP
Established in 1983, ILDC (Indian Lake Development Corporation) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is improving Indian Lake State Park in conjunction with the State Park manager. Our lively group consists of volunteers that are constantly looking for feedback for potential improvement around the Lake!
Our volunteers manage the organization of ILDC, and assist in fundraising projects that benefit both Indian Lake State Park visitors and the community. One of our biggest events of the year is ILDC Day! This annual picnic is held in September and is filled with recreation, entertainment, good food, and great discussion about the future of Indian Lake State Park improvements. State and local officials also attend this event, allowing for camaraderie to develop through friendly, open conversation about future projects.
In addition to discussing future projects, ILDC Day showcases past accomplishments and explains ongoing projects! This occasion, along with partnership with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, has brought about many great ventures, including the development of Old Field Beach, the bike path, updated restroom facilities, park land acquisitions, dredge equipment purchases, shoreline protection, and the formation of the Indian Lake Watershed Project!
HISTORY
In 1983, Indian Lake State Park manager Dave Helgeson realized there was a need for improvement in many areas around the lake. Having received little capital funding for many years, Dave formed a state park advisory council, comprised of community leaders, to bring attention to those needs. The council’s purpose was to inform the Indian Lake community, as well as local and state officials, of the sought-after improvements. It soon became the Indian Lake Development Corporation. The initial focus of the group was on the development of ILSP facilities, but soon expanded to include the preservation of our natural areas, and enhancement of fishing and hunting. ILDC has worked alongside the Indian Lake Watershed Project for many years, becoming a model for a successful partnership for other state parks.
Through fundraising events and donations from the community, ILDC has been able to be responsible for many projects and improvements throughout the state park. It has purchased picnic tables, park benches, playground equipment, law enforcement supplies, and much more. A rentable multi-purpose building constructed at the ILSP was partially funded by ILDC. In June of 2017, a dog park was opened at Old Field Beach. The following year, ILDC installed two shade structures at the beach, as well. An ADA compliant dock was installed at the Russells Point Harbor, across from the donut shop. ILDC is currently responsible for the maintenance of the shoreline in state park areas. On June 11th, 2022, ILDC held the grand opening of its largest project to date, the new Fox Island Playground. This playground is inclusive, and has access to an ADA compliant dock and fishing area.
